Your work will focus on building and maintaining Linux kernel drivers and the interfaces that connect our hardware platforms to higher-level applications. You'll work primarily in a Linux environment, writing software in languages such as C, C++, and Rust, and building embedded Linux images using Yocto/BitBake. An ideal candidate will have strong familiarity with kernel internals, hardware bring-up, and low-level systems debugging. United States veterans and candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply at any experience level.</span></p> <p><strong>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>Design, write, and maintain Linux kernel drivers and low-level software for camera and sensor hardware</li> <li>Develop and debug software that communicates with devices over interfaces including CAN, UART, I2C, SPI, MIPI CSI, and others</li> <li>Bring up new hardware platforms, including board support package (BSP) development, device tree configuration, and kernel/bootloader integration</li> <li>Build and maintain embedded Linux distributions using Yocto and BitBake, including custom layers and recipes</li> <li>Collaborate with hardware engineering teams to define driver requirements and troubleshoot hardware/software interaction issues</li> <li>Demonstrate proficiency in low-level debugging, performance analysis, and systems-level software engineering</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:</strong><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>1-3 years of hands-on experience in Linux kernel or device driver development preferred, but new graduates with relevant coursework or project experience are invited to apply</li> <li>Working experience with the Linux kernel, kernel modules, and driver development</li> <li>Strong working experience with C; experience with C++ and/or Rust a plus</li> <li>Familiarity with device tree, U-Boot, or other bootloader/BSP concepts preferred</li> <li>Experience with Yocto/BitBake or similar embedded Linux build systems preferred</li> <li>Good working knowledge of revision control and code review tools like Git</li> <li>Experience manipulating GPIO and working with embedded Linux hardware platforms</li> <li>Ability to read schematics and data sheets, with hands-on experience debugging hardware at the register or bus level<strong>&nbsp;</strong></li> </ul> <p><strong>Benefits:</strong></p> <ul> <li>5% employer 401(k) contribution, with no match required</li> <li>10% contribution to the employee equity program</li> <li>100% of health, dental, and vision premiums paid for employees and their families, including domestic partners</li> <li>100% of life and disability insurance premiums paid</li> <li>10 holidays, two company-wide shutdown weeks, and 15 hours of PTO accrued per month</li> <li>4 weeks of parental leave</li> </ul> <p><strong>Work Location:&nbsp;</strong>Pittsburgh</p> <p><strong>Opportunity for advancement:&nbsp;</strong></p> <p>Hellbender is a growing business and follows a policy that prioritizes internal promotions.
