What we do

VCBacked is a continuously updated database of 20,000+ venture-backed startups. Each profile includes funding history, lead investors, founding team, headquarters location, and industry classification. The full database is searchable for free without a signup.

Why we built it

Most established venture data platforms are paywalled, slow to update, or require user-submitted profiles that introduce noise. VCBacked exists to make verified startup data accessible for free, with editorial standards comparable to those of tier-one financial data providers. Our goal is to be the most accurate and most cite-able free source of venture-backed startup data on the web.

Who we are

VCBacked is built and operated by an independent team. The same team also operates two related data products:

LPBacked — a database of limited partners and family offices.
AngelBacked — a database of active angel investors.

Editorial principles

Independence. No company can pay to be added, removed, ranked higher, or featured. We accept no equity, sponsorship, or directed-content arrangements that affect database content.
Verifiability. Every funding round in the database has at least one verifiable public source. See our methodology for details.
Corrections. Errors are fixed within five business days of verification. Founders and investors can request corrections through our contact page.
Transparency. When data is incomplete, we say so rather than guessing.

Climate commitment

VCBacked contributes a portion of revenue to Stripe Climate, which funds frontier carbon removal technology. See our public contribution page for current totals and the portfolio of removal projects supported.

For researchers and journalists

VCBacked data is free to cite. Each company and investor profile has a stable canonical URL suitable for use as a reference in research papers, articles, and encyclopedic sources.
