Funding data inside your AI assistant

Ask which companies just raised, filtered how you actually think about them, and get founders, investors and contact details back in the same conversation. No exports, no pasting rows between tools.

What people use it for

Two tools, asked in plain language. The prompts below are literal — paste them in.

Prospect and draft outreach

Ask for companies matching your ICP that raised in the last 30 days, then have your assistant draft a personalised opener for each founder using the round size, investors and what the company actually does.

Find fintech companies that raised a Series A in the last 30 days in New York, and draft a short intro email to each founder referencing their round.

Track funding automatically

Put the connector in a scheduled task and let it report new rounds on a cadence — your target accounts, your portfolio, your competitors, or a whole sector. No dashboard to check.

Every Monday, list companies in climate tech that raised in the past 7 days with more than $5M, and summarise what each one does.

Source and diligence deals

Sweep recent rounds by stage and sector, then pivot on investors to see who is co-investing, how quickly a sector is heating up, and which companies fit a thesis.

Which seed-stage robotics companies raised in the last 60 days, and which investors appear most often across them?

Recruit from newly funded teams

A company that just closed a round is about to hire. Go from "who raised" to "who is hiring, for what, right now" in one conversation.

Show me companies that raised a Series B in the last 90 days in Austin, then check which ones have open engineering roles.

Enrich your CRM

Hand your assistant a list of accounts and have it attach the latest round type, amount, date and investor set to each one — then flag which accounts changed stage since you last looked.

Here are 40 accounts. For each, tell me the most recent round, amount and lead investors, and mark the ones that raised since June.

Research a market

Measure funding velocity by industry, stage and geography over a rolling window — how many rounds, at what sizes, backed by whom.

Compare seed funding volume in healthcare versus fintech over the last 90 days, by number of rounds and total raised.

Write the roundup

Generate a newsletter, internal digest or sales briefing from the week’s rounds, in your own voice and format, without copying rows between tools.

Draft this week’s funding roundup: the 10 largest rounds, one sentence each, grouped by sector.

The connector is read-only. VCbacked supplies the data and your assistant drafts the message — sending happens through your own email account and tooling.

1

Get your key

Generate an API key on your VCbacked profile. Same key as the REST API.

2

Add the server

Point your assistant at the endpoint and pass the key as a bearer token.

3

Ask

Your assistant now has two tools for searching the funding database.

Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http vcbacked-companies \
  https://app.vcbacked.co/api/mcp/companies \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer vcb_your_api_key"

Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Muse and other clients take the same endpoint as a custom remote MCP server. Full setup docs · Get an API key

What you need

  • An active annual VCbacked plan — Pro at $299/year, or Lifetime. The connector is included at no extra cost.
  • An API key with the companies scope, generated on your profile page.
  • A client that supports remote MCP servers. Rate limits are 100 requests per hour and 1,000 per day, shared with the REST API.

Questions

What is the VCbacked MCP server?

It is a remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that exposes the VCbacked funding database to AI assistants. Instead of exporting a CSV and pasting rows into a chat, your assistant queries the database directly and gets back recently funded companies with founders, contact details, round type, amounts and investors.

Which AI assistants can use it?

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over streamable HTTP. That includes Claude (Claude Code and Claude Desktop), ChatGPT, Muse, and a growing list of agent frameworks. You add it once as a custom connector with your API key.

What does it cost?

The connector is included with an annual VCbacked plan (Pro at $299/year, or Lifetime) at no extra charge. It uses the same API key and the same rate limit budget as the REST API — 100 requests per hour and 1,000 per day — rather than a separate allowance.

How do I authenticate?

Generate an API key on your VCbacked profile page and pass it as a bearer token in the Authorization header, or on the endpoint URL for clients that cannot set custom headers. There is no separate MCP credential. A hosted sign-in flow with no key to paste is in development.

Can it send emails or change my data?

No. The connector is read-only — it exposes two search tools and performs no writes. If you ask your assistant to draft outreach, the drafting happens in your assistant and sending goes through your own email account and tooling, so your existing sending setup and consent practices apply unchanged.

What data comes back?

Company name, description, industries, headquarters, website, founders, a named contact with role, email and LinkedIn, the last round type, amount and date, total funding raised, and the top investors. It is the same record shape the REST API returns.
